Why Fort McMurray, Specifically

Alberta's Rural Renewal Stream lets employers in designated communities under 100,000 residents skip the LMIA process and sponsor foreign workers directly toward permanent residence, once the community itself issues a formal endorsement letter. It sounds simple until you check which communities are actually taking applications. Lethbridge lost its designation entirely after its population crossed the program's threshold. Medicine Hat opted out. Lloydminster closed its 2026 intake. Cold Lake paused after hitting its allocation limit within weeks.
